Dutch metal band FOR I AM KING are preparing for the release of their brand new studio album ‘Crown’ – the band’s first release since their second album ‘I’ from 2018. The quintet offers modern, multi-layered and furious, but always catchy metal with hypnotic melodies, driven by the unique vocals of frontwoman and eye-catcher Alma Alizadeh. The upcoming album is scheduled for release on 19 January 2023 and is the proverbial crowning glory of the quintet’s ten-year career.
Frontwoman Alma Alizadeh: “Our previous album “I” was a metaphor about power. Thematically, “Crown” is a logical continuation of that. I find it interesting to see that rulers, such as a classical king, can count on the support and loyalty of their subjects for a long time; their disciples. Even when he becomes megalomaniac because of his crown, which gives him absolute power, which makes him feel untouchable. Meanwhile, history has shown time and again how this ends: He misbehaves, abuses his omnipotence for terrible purposes – ‘Hail to the king, for I am king’. Nevertheless, his disciples remain faithful to him for a long time; they even worship him and love him. But eventually things end badly when his people stop putting up with the oppression and take matters into their own hands, with the king’s execution as the end result.”
Guitarist Koen Scheepens: “The cycle of power runs like a red thread through “Crown”, which is also very clear visually. Once again, we have moulded our album artwork in a Renaissance style. The album cover shows a crown – the only thing left of the king – lying upside down, while greedy hands reach for other crowns (in other words: for power). On the back, the crown is once again taken over by someone else. Let’s hope it lands in good hands this time. ‘Crown’ is full of lyrics and visual artwork that analogue what power can do to people.”
Since their formation in 2013, FOR I AM KING have released two albums (‘Daemons’ in 2016 and ‘I’ in 2018) that have been acclaimed by fans and critics alike. In addition, the quintet has played numerous shows worldwide, including in Japan, China and Europe (e.g. Jera On Air, Wacken Open Air, Metal Days, FortaRock, Full Force).
